With the number of technology companies in Portland and surrounding metropolitan areas, it is no surprise that we've been given the nickname of the "Silicon Forest". Matrix Networks is proud to be a part of the tech world here in Portland. We're continuously amazed and impressed by how many tech companies not only survive in Portland but truly thrive.

This round up of 5 top Portland tech companies is definitely not a complete list of all the companies we admire, but it's a great place to start if you want to know more about the tech industry here.

1. Puppet Labs

IT automation software company Puppet Labs has definitely established itself as one of Portland's leading tech companies since its founding in 2005. It has landed on the Inc. 5000 list twice already and grew its revenue nearly 4000% between 2009 and 2013. Business Insider named Puppet Labs a "startup to bet your career on in 2015."

Their offices are in downtown Portland.

2. Zapproved

Founded in 2008 outside of Portland, e-Discovery company Zapproved has recently opened an office in downtown in order to appeal to new employees. Zapproved introduced to market the first cloud-based litigation hold management software and has since grown to be a widely used and respected name in the legal and tech communities.

3. Elemental Technologies

If you have ever streamed a video on your computer, you just might have Portland's own Elemental Technologies to thank. Elemental Technologies, founded in 2006, works with huge content providers including Comcast, Disney, and HBO to encode, compress and stream video content direct to consumers.

4. Jama Software

Built on the idea that better communication makes businesses work smarter, Jama Software developed a proprietary project management platform and has turned that into a growing Portland tech business. The aim of the Jama platform is to remove common frustrations from the product delivery process and the company's results ($13 million in revenue in 2013) indicate that they are managing to do just that.

5. iovation

Founded in 2004, iovation certainly isn't a new face in the Portland tech scene, but they remain one of the most important, landing on the PBJ100 list of fastest growing Portland companies earlier this year. This online fraud prevention company has services that extend to mobile fraud prevention, risk reduction, and device authentication. Their offices are located in Portland.

This is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to tech in Portland, but all these companies are worth a look.
